What causes spider and thread veins?
Spider (thread) veins are extremely common and can be caused by a number of things such as hereditary, hormones, pregnancy, smoking and exposure of the body to varied temperatures. Spider veins are widened venules that cause red lines or patterns on the skin. Their formation is gradual. Spider veins are common in areas that are easily seen (lips, nose, eyes, fingers, oral cavities). They can cause discomfort and look unattractive. Most people choose to have them removed.
